Firebirds Lose No-No In Ninth, Beat Chatham 2-0!

Friday, the frustrated Firebirds came into the game sitting in last place in the Eastern Division. They had lost their last two games by one run and one of those games is still under protest. Plus, they lost Jason Esposito (Vanderbilt) to Team U.S.A.

The Firebirds scored their first run on a bunt by Will Piwnica-Worms (Duke) that scored Riccio Torrez (Arizona State). Chatham's manager John Schiffner was ejected after arguing the close call at the plate. In the seventh, Shon Roe (Loyola Marymount) singled home the second Firebird run. Kolten Wong [3], Riccio Torrez [1], and Shon Roe [2] provided the Firebirds with their six hits on the game.

Cameron Hobson (Dayton), Burny Mitchem (Dayton), and Will Clinard (Vanderbilt) combined for eight innings of hitless baseball. Marcus Stroman (Duke) threw the ninth inning and allowed two hits and struck out one. Stroman picked up his fourth save of the season after a bases loaded double play by Kolten Wong (Hawaii) and Shon Roe saved the game for Orleans. Stroman has thrown ninteen and two-thirds innings without allowing a single earned run!

Orleans hosts Hyannis tomorrow at Eldredge Park at 7:00pm despite Pointstreak saying they host Falmouth. Tune into the Firebirds' Broadcast at http://www.teamline.cc/sport_schedule?teamcode=2653&eventcode=5
